differently than those of us who use computers. The printing industry calls these black and white images as ONE COLOR. The paper being white, or whatever, and the ink being the actual colors. So these were black ink on paper (one color) |

| These images have been optimized to work
on the "Better" home printers.
I have tried them on a dot matrix printer,
and they don't look very good, because of
the horizontal lines made by the print head.
Ink Jet printers work better, laser jet works
better than Ink Jet, and digital imaging
printers work better than all the above. The prints furnished by TheTinBox.com are produced on photographic paper, and that is the cat's meow of imaging. |

| Prints on photographic paper allow total
reproduction of the gray scale, and colors,
since photo paper is linear, instead of digital
like our home printers. Therefore, the image
file we use to make these prints are somewhat
different that these images here. They are much larger, show all the detail of the original ad, including the texture of the paper they are printed on. Here is a snip of one of these ads, the way it's seen on the photo prints. Sample.jpg It's pretty big, so don't be surprised when it pops up. It will open in a new window, so just close the window when you are through with it. Remember that this is a VERY LARGE picture. If it were an actual print, based on what you see on your screen, (assuming you have a 15 inch monitor) it would be about two feet wide, and three feet tall. As you can see, it will look pretty darned good. Be patient, as these files do take a while to download, three to six minutes each(depending on your connection). You lucky folks with high speed connections will see these things really quick... or so I'm told. I use a 56k modem. No high speed stuff is available here. Unless I get on the new satellite system starting up now. |

| One of the major difficulties involved with
printing these images on a printer versus
the direct photo transfer imaging of the
LightJet 5000, is the way the original ad
is printed. They too are made of dots that
make up the images, you can see it in the
Sample.jpg . These dots are usually set at near 72
dots per inch. It would seem easy to scan
that with 300 dpi on a scanner, but no!.
You see, the dots vary in size. The 300dpi
scanner won't get all that info into the
computer. They end up looking like this Example.jpg This same phenomena occurs in your computer when you are viewing these images other than actual size (1:1 ratio). If you size it down to see all the image, sometimes they look like that, but they actually don't ! Change the scaling to different sizes and see it clear up or get worse.. To make the image smaller, and look like these thumbnails here on this page, they need to be "Softened" to hide the dots. Then they can be reduced like this. The original scans I do- provides an image of about 5000X8000 pixels. This makes a HUGE file for a color image, and a really big file in black and white (256 color gray scale) |

| Here's a treat! A two page ad from 1949 This is known as "Two Color", as the only color other than black is blue. Once again, the white is the paper, so it doesn't count. You will need to download both images to get the full two page ad. |
